In today's world, diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives have become essential components of a company's success and culture.
Sharethrough is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and inclusive workplace where every employee feels valued and supported. In North America, the industry average for diversity in tech companies is 30% non-white and 70% white. With these ongoing initiatives, Sharethrough was able to bring their numbers above industry average at 44% non-white and 56% white. In this post, we cover some of the recent DEI initiatives undertaken by Sharethrough during the month of September, including the launch of the Women and Allies Employee Resource Group, the celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month, and the opportunity to attend a special workshop with Grandmother Irene Compton.
September’s Latest DEI initiatives:
Women and Allies at Sharethrough ERG
Kimberley Stone, Sales Development Director in EMEA at Sharethrough, took the initiative to host an imposter syndrome workshop at our offsite in Mexico. This workshop was a significant step towards her plan to launch the first Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Sharethrough. Sharethrough participated in the Women in Tech Global Conference for the first time. This event played a pivotal role in shedding light on the key aspects and objectives that Sharethrough would want to incorporate into its newly established ERG.
The creation of this ERG is important for several reasons. Firstly, it offers a safe space for employees to discuss gender-related challenges and opportunities, creating an open dialogue on gender equality. Additionally, the ERG empowers employees to collaborate on initiatives that promote gender diversity in the workplace, ultimately helping to create a more equitable and inclusive environment at Sharethrough. By recognizing the importance of diverse voices and experiences, Sharethrough is taking a significant step towards building a better, more inclusive company culture!
National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Sharethrough embraces diversity by celebrating cultural heritage months and events. National Hispanic Heritage Month, observed from September 15th to October 15th, provides an excellent opportunity to highlight the contributions of Hispanic and Latinx individuals.
Viviana Rodriguez, Junior financial analyst, And Balbina Santana, software engineer at Sharethrough
Viviana Rodriguez Junior Financial Analyst and Balbina Santana, Software Engineer took the initiative to host an informative session in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month. To make it engaging and educational, they organized a Jeopardy game that tested participants' knowledge about Hispanic and Latinx culture, history, and achievements that we learned about during their presentation! This interactive approach not only educated employees but also made learning about Hispanic heritage fun and engaging.
Workshop with Grandmother Irene Compton
In light of the National Truth and Reconciliation Day celebrated in Canada on September 30th, Sharethrough recently had the privilege of participating in a virtual workshop led by Grandmother Irene Compton, co-founder of Minwaashin Lodge and an intergenerational survivor of the residential school system. This workshop was a unique opportunity for employees to learn from someone with profound insights into Indigenous culture and wisdom.
During the session, attendees delved into the seven grandfather teachings and their relevance to leadership and interpersonal relationships. The Medicine Wheel, a sacred tool for balancing life, was also explored in-depth. As Sharethrough’s Montreal headquarters is located on indigenous land, it was important for employees to gain a deeper understanding of Indigenous perspectives and values, enriching their appreciation for diversity and promoting cultural sensitivity.
