November marks ‘Caring Month’ at Sharethrough, embodying our dedication to one of our fundamental company values — Caring.

We thought it was fitting to dedicate an entire month to physical and mental well-being — it’s our third year in a row! It's a time to recharge, and remind ourselves that self-care is essential. In this blog post, we’ll be breaking down our annual ‘Caring Month’, and sharing the five main reasons why we are dedicated to hosting this event.

5 Reasons Why We Host Caring Month

1. Boosted Energy Levels

When you maintain an active lifestyle and eat well, your body becomes a powerhouse of energy. You'll feel more vibrant and ready to tackle whatever life throws your way.

2. Enhanced Physical Health

Regular exercise and a balanced diet can lower the risk of chronic diseases. It's like a protective shield for your body.

3. Improved Mental Health

Physical activity releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones. This can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting a more positive mood.

4. A Sharper Mind

Exercise isn't just for the body; it's for the brain too! It can improve cognitive function, memory, and overall brain health. You'll be more alert and mentally sharp.

5. Better Sleep

An active lifestyle can lead to more restful and rejuvenating sleep. Say goodbye to those sleepless nights and hello to sweet dreams.

Caring for Physical Health Through Yoga Practice

The activities during Caring Month exemplify our commitment to holistic well-being. Yoga, with its myriad physical and mental benefits, took center stage. We hosted invigorating sessions both in person and virtually, catering to different preferences and ensuring everyone had access to this rejuvenating practice hosted by our very own Stacy Parkinson, VP People & Culture at Sharethrough! Stacy, a certified yoga teacher, has practiced in various countries around the world and has been teaching yoga since she got her yoga teacher certification in India in 2019.

2,540 Kilometers / 1,578 Miles For Physical and Mental Well-Being

November is a darker month for most of us Sharethroughers as daylight savings time comes around and the weather gets colder. With that in mind, it’s important to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle to combat some of the winter blues, known as seasonal affective disorder, that employees can feel during this time. Our Sharethrough community pushed forward by enthusiastically embracing physical activities and team challenges.

Sharethroughers united together to embark on a Strava Distance Challenge that saw us collectively cover an astounding 2540 km, or 1578 miles, with Laurence Champagne, Head of Legal & Compliance at Sharethrough leading the way with 712km covered. To put this incredible team feat into perspective, it's the equivalent to traveling from New York to Miami! This challenge gave us the opportunity to get out of the house and get moving!

Sharing is Caring: Favorite Activities, Healthy Meals & Exercises Inspired by Our Coworkers

Sharethroughers took the opportunity to share their favorite activities, creating a vibrant mosaic of wellness practices that resonate within our community. From taking walks around their neighborhoods, hitting the gym, or going to a pilates class, our coworkers shared what they do to stay active! Here are a few ways that Sharethrougher’s stayed active throughout Caring Month:

“This month I've been focused on going to the gym & doing lots of sunset walks! My all time favorite way to stay active is hiking with my family.” - Matthew Workman, Marketing Coordinator.

“This month I’ve been enjoying long walks around my neighborhood! Especially with the first snowfall it’s always beautiful to see!” – Wendy Jensen, People & Culture Specialist.

“I alternate between HIIT at my local gym, yoga at home or in the studio (and with my Sharethrough colleagues), and running! I love switching it up, variety is key for me!” – Stacy Parkinson, VP People & Culture.

“Walking my son to and from daycare (it is a 2K walk with a *giant* hill pushing a 30 lb toddler in a stroller) plus weight training 3x a week.” – Petra Fernandes, Senior Account Executive.

“My go to activities have been either lifting weights in the gym because I love the feeling of getting stronger or a Pilates class because I spend all day hunched over at my desk so it's great to work on improving my posture.” – Yeside Alawaye, Senior Revenue Operations Manager, Supply.

“I’m a big fan of variety as well! I do pilates because I absolutely loved how it helped me regain the mind body connection, calisthenics in different forms either at home or at an aerials studio and lots of walking especially on my treadmill (thanks to Sharethrough’s well-being program) it helps me clear my mind while listening to a podcast or watching videos!” – Ilham Belkhadir, Data Engineer.

“I’m going to cheat and share three of my favorite recipes that I’ve been making lately: Quick and easy salad, a vegetarian spin on a classic Iranian dish, and of course, the best last minute I-don’t-know-what-to-make-for-dinner dish: shakshuka.” - Sean Nemati, IT & Security Manager

Webinar: Increasing Your Resilience, Dream or Reality? by Liz Eustace, Leadership Coach

In today’s rapidly changing world, uncertainty and change are everywhere. However, why do some people cope better with uncertainty and change? Why do some people bounce back more easily after a hard test? Why do others collapse? Resilience, one of Sharethrough’s core values, refers to the ability to adapt and recover quickly after stress, bad luck, trauma or tragedy.

In a very special webinar, hosted by Danielle Carrière, Customer Success Analyst at Dialogue, Sharethroughers were able to have an interactive webinar taught by Liz Eustace, leadership coach with expertise in wellbeing. Liz took center stage to teach us how to develop resilience and benefit from its advantages, as well as how to discover an improved quality of life. Key takeaways included: gathering the tools necessary to increase one's own resilience, looking at the big picture, and learning to tune into our own emotional needs.

Caring Month isn't just a chapter in our calendar; it's a cornerstone of our ethos. It's a celebration of our commitment to ourselves and each other—a reminder that our well-being isn't negotiable but an imperative ingredient in our journey of growth and success. As we continue forward, the spirit of Caring Month lives on, guiding us to prioritize self-care and fostering a culture of wellness that defines us at Sharethrough.
